Mold can be very destructive if it is not removed and remediated properly. If left for an extended period of time, the mold can cause drywall and wood structures to rot and ultimately weaken. When working with any type of mold removal, it’s important to wear full protective gear including, an OSHA approved respiratory masks, goggles, gloves, and a protective suit.

The first step in the mold removal process is inspections and testing. Upon inspection, our technicians will take samples from the affected area, then send the sample to a lab for further testing. If the results come back positive for mold, the team will begin the removal and remediation process.
Next, the Bio Clean 911 will set up containment around the affected areas to prevent the mold from spreading and no spores escape into the rest of the house.
The team will place HEPA approved air scrubbers inside the containment to remove any mold spores from the air. This will prevent the spores from spreading throughout the home or business.
The team will begin the removal and sanitation process. This includes scraping the mold off of the affected areas. After the mold is removed, the team will apply an antimicrobial to the affected areas and follow up with a deep cleaning.
The final step in the mold removal process is completed by a third-party inspector. The inspector will complete a full inspection of the property to ensure all mold is removed and no spores remain in the affected areas.

What Is Mold?

mold removal

Mold is an airborne fungus that is everywhere in the world around us in the form of mold spores. These spores can only be seen under a microscope and do not cause an immediate threat to your home or health. However, when the spores are in the right environment they will quickly evolve into the harmful mold you are familiar with and spread throughout the area.

So, what does mold need to grow?

In order for mold to grow, there needs to be a source of moisture and organic material like wood, drywall, ceiling tiles, carpet, paper, cardboard, or natural fabrics. If the moisture continues, the mold will grow rapidly and spread throughout the affected area. Mold will grow in long, strands, which will appear to look fuzzy and it may appear in a handful of colors – blue, green, black, and grey. However, it’s important to note that the color of the mold does not determine the specific strand of mold.

Black Mold

Stachbotrys chartarum, otherwise known as black mold, is the most dangerous type of mold. This type of mold is typically a greenish-black color, however, it can appear many other colors as well so, if there is black-colored mold in your home it does not particularly mean it is this black mold. The growth of black mold is most commonly associated with sewage backups and flooding because of all the bacteria present in this water. The biggest reason that black mold is the most dangerous type of mold is because it’s difficult to identify with the human eye. It really takes microscopic evaluation to actually identify the mold. Symptoms of black mold are very similar to season allergies – runny nose, couching, itchy eyes. However, if people with depleted immune systems may experience upper respiratory issues upon exposure.

How To Identify Mold

Mold can grow anywhere there is moisture and organic material, so if there is any water damage in the home there is probably mold growth. Most molds can be seen by the eye, but maybe located in are to reach places, like behind the dishwasher. Mildew is the most visible type of mold and usually appears as small black spots that grow into larger colonies. Mildew appears in the grout lines around the shower, or on damp walls. An easy way to test for mildew is to dab a couple of drops of bleach on the spots and if the color lightens after a couple of minutes, the spots are mildew.  Mildew will only grow on the surface level of the area and will not damage the structure of your home, but other forms of mold can cause rotting in the structure. If you notice a musty odor in the home this is a huge indicator that mold is present.
